Question for advanced photographers?
Hello, My name is Michael and I'm 27 years old. I took several photography classes (New York Institute of Photography, Maine Media Workshops, and Art Institutes of Chicago). They were great classes and graduated with my colleagues in Photography Professional and my BA in Media Arts. The problem with college was that I was using a Nikon N75 QD 35mm camera with 4 different lenses. I have a digital P & S I regularly use to travel, but I'd like a digital SLR camera so I can start my photography business. I'm looking for a Canon 6.1MP and wondered how big shots can I do? With my 35mm, I can do to 30×80. I'm not very familiar with megapixel so any help is much appreciated. Thank you. Thanks Katie and Cao. Fish Honey, why are you so rude to people here?
Hi Michael. For normal 4×6 "(10x15cm) prints, including VGA (640 x 480 or 0.3MP) resolution is fine. Digital cameras made in 1991! In 1999, when digital cameras were only 1.2 to 2 MP, each megapixel matter if were making good impressions. Today, even the cheapest cameras have at least 5 or 6 PM, enough for up to 5×7. How? Simple: when printing of three feet (1 m) wide, which are farther back. Print a poster, and 100 feet back foot. 6MP is fine. Sharpness depends on how many megapixels is because the technique most people neglected or subject motion blurs the image more than anything else. Sharpness has much to do with image quality, and resolution has little to do with sharpness. Resolution (pixels) has everything to do with image quality. The color and tone is far more important technically. Even Consumer Reports in their November 2002 edition reported high-resolution digital cameras made better images than some lower resolution. That was long time! My friends who are professional photographers who shoot with Mamiya has 24 megapixels. The more megapixels, bigger things that can fly. I am a professional photographer. I've been in business for 15 years. I sell my Gagosian Gallery in Chelsea in New York.
