nikon nikkor f-series lenses
digital single lens reflex camera and what options are best for what I do?

I've been interested in photography now for 6 or 7 years after my father inherited from Nikon F401x, another Nikon (I think also the F-Series family), a small Yashica 35mm SLR, and a huge collection of Nikkor lenses. Also I have a small point and shoot Canon g7. I've become particularly fond of street portraits, some macro, photography frank nature, and something my friend likes to call "secret photography." Despite all this, I know nothing about digital SLR cameras and am looking to invest in the long term. I had been looking at the Canon EOS 40D, weighing against the Nikon D300 (because I'm already familiar with Nikon SLR). What would be the best camera choice for what I do? Not even have to be the EOS 40D or D300. Any recommendations on particular lenses? Thanks!

If you have Nikon F401x (N5005 alias), then you probably have a good collection of Nikon AF lenses. It starts a Canon system from scratch. System starts with a Nikon bag stocked camera, too. I have a Nikon D200 and love to all my older Nikon AF lenses and manual focus works perfectly with it. The D300 is a good step forward, which is most capabilities of the D3, but with a difference in the price. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d3/vs-d300.htm Trust me, if you're a Nikon shooter, you'll find Nikon D300 in a natural setting in your hands. I hope this is helpful.
