What is the best type of flash for the use of outdoor portraits?
I have a Nikon D80 and I mainly do outdoor pictures older pictures and children and families … what is the best type of flash to make my pictures look the best for outddors … as a macro ring flash, external flash, or do i need umbrella kit? someone help me
You can get a Nikon flash series SBXXX or you can try the method Strobist. Which basically uses the advocates of using any cheap flash with a collapsible portable stand and an umbrella. A good umbrella will maximize efficiency and distribute the light evenly and D80 has a PC connector that can be used to activate any flash that has a PC socket (or you can get a shoe to PC adapter). I really like his method, it takes some practice but it will get better results with both a flash of the camera with a lot lesss a camera mounted flash ETTL. The other advantage for you is that it's pictures, families and children. Except for all the other children sit still so you can configure your computer and then concentrate on poses. And the equipment is portable enough to be set up anywhere. While it is recommended to use cheapo Sunpak flash even use camera. SBXXX suggest sticking the largest you can afford. With a Nikon dedicated flash can still use TTL mode mounting it on the shoe of the camera, when you can (or will not) use an off camera flash.
