Does Hoya SUPER HMC Haze UV (0) Filter – UV – 67 mm, FIT and work with my Nikon 70-300VR lens?

Hello, I'm thinking of getting this filter to http://www.amazon.com/Hoya-SUPER-HMC-Haze-UV/dp/B00009R9CZ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1221008559&sr=1-2 when the filter is in place?? And finally this filter make my images look worse, or is simply protecting the UV light lens w / o doing any damage to
