I wonder, what with Carl Zeiss lenses?
I mean. ONLY selling lenses for sony, nokia etc. how different are the lenses leica sell? or canon or nikon or olympus? What is the difference?
Zeiss lenses are famous for their quality. "Legend" could be the key word however. In the dark ages – BC – "Before the Computer" – lenses were designed by highly qualified mathmeticians physicists and maintained their formulas closely guarded. If they hit on a good formula, like magic. Was very good Zeiss lens design. Part of the anger at the influx of Japanese equipment used lens design computer very heavily. They discovered how to break some of the rules and other Zeiss considered the Holy Grail and they could make lenses that were near or of equal quality for a lot less money. Zeiss lenses are still wonderful lens. (As far as I know, have not sold the name, like many companies do … Anyone??) There are several companies that are at least as good, however. Nikon and Canon of Japan come to mind. Leica and Schneider of Germany come to mind.
