What Kind Of Photo Equipment Do News/Media/Paparazzo Photographers Use?
When I see CNN, Bravo, E, I see many professional photographers with very expensive camera and flash gear. It also looks like they have a silver bracket that is attached to the cameras and flash. I wanted to find out exactly what cameras they use digital or film, lenses, flash, brackets, and other related gear they carry in their camera bags. If you are a pro shooter, please let us know what you use. I would also assume name brand pro cameras like Canon and or Nikon. Thanks for your advice
Pros in those fields are generally using the high-end Canons and Nikons – for Canon, usually the 1D Mark IIN or Mark III, with Nikon, either the D2HS, D2X or now the D3. Some will carry the prosumer versions – the Canon 30D or 40D and the Nikon D200/D300, depending on how light they need to go.
As far as lenses – most news photographers carry constant-aperture lenses, and will have a very wide-angle lens (usually 16-35mm f2.8 on Canon, 17-35 or 17-55 with Nikon), a semi-wide zoom (28-70mm f2.8) and a telephoto zoom (70-200mm f2.8). Depending on what they’re shooting, they may also have access to longer telephotos – 300mm and 400mm f2.8 or 600 f4 lenses – or extremely wide-angle/fisheye lenses.
For flashes, they’ll usually have whatever the top-end flash for their system is – the Canon 580EX or Nikon SB800 – and some will carry an external battery pack, multiple flashes and a standard flash bracket (the Manfrotto ones are always popular), as well.
