Setting flash nikon d5000 SB-600 used as remote flash?

I recently bought the nikon sb-600 flash shoe. Is there any way I can use the SB as a remote flash unit for the use of cameras built in pop-up flash as the main flash?

I think we need an SB-800 for able to do that. Because SB-600 is not compatible with the remote control function. However, SB-800 and 900 has this function safely.
