What digital SLR camera to choose? Please read + advice?

I film SLR for some years, then I got a Nikon D200 … as my first digital SLR. It was just too heavy for me, although it is a beautiful camera. MI photographic film was a Nikon. Now I'm stuck! I did the photography for eight years. I'm quite serious, is a great passion. But I want a camera that is very good, and that is not too heavy to carry out every day with me in my bag. I have to choose between: Olympus E510 (lower sensor chip apparently) Nikon D80 (still feel so damn heavy!) Canon 450D or 400D (it feels good in your hands, but the bodys feel so plasticy and cheap, with buttons scratched) I have no experience of the Pentax cameras, some seem quite Tho decent.

I have three cameras that I use today: a D200 (like you), a D3 and F6 (film SLR). All Nikon. What are you paying, and pay for everything is the magnesium alloy construction. Confers resistance and durability. For the most part, a "very good" camera is one that has power as well. Get a good camera bag or invest in a photographer's jacket. This transfers the weight from neck to hips. Much more comfortable. Really I notice when I walked through Burma! If you stay with Nikon, then you can use other lenses, and have access to the widest range of lenses available.
