Best way to improve autofocus in no / low light situations for Nikon D90?
I use a Nikon D90 in a no, low light situation i flash concert strictly prohibited. The point is that the light AF-assist illuminator is the way to white and bright to be used in this circumstance. Just looks a lot like a flash and get to be booted and blacklisted certain sites. So the question is as follows. Is there an accessory or a solution for improve the capacity of auto focus camera without using the brilliant white light that is the lamp of help? It seems that the speed of light fixture has autofocus lamp red, but would have to shoot with a flash is used? What happens with a gel pack, or similar on the existing fixture? Lens is an extremely fast 50mm f1.4. Turning off the AF lamp is what you already do. I am able with my camera. The question remains how I can get better autofocus without lamp.
As the previous poster said, the faster lens can help. AF assist lamp is very annoying, what is best to disable it in concert halls. Another thing you can do is focus on a contrast advantage you have enough light is the same distance as the subject. You can try focus on the eyes or glasses. You need to set the camera to the focus area is set (usually the center), and blockage of the area through the switch just below and to the left of your choice of four directions (page 56 of manual). The lock prevents the 4-way selector moving the focus area. Then set your auto focus function with AF-S (page 54 of manual) to lock the focus when you press the shutter button halfway. After locking the focus, can compose and shoot. I've used this technique to throw shows and dance halls with the illumination given. Be sure to adjust the white balance. In general, tungsten Kelvin or using the right setting for white balance. Shooting in manual mode is useful. If stage lighting is difficult for an automatic exposure system to do well. Adjust your monitor to select the LCD so you can see the overexposed areas (page 163).
