How many pictures is the Nikon D5000 good for, any tips for the new camera?

I just bought the new Nikon d5000 , I am wondering how many pictures would this camera be able to take over its life before the internal parts start to ware down.I did spend the 200 extra for the 4 year warranty.
Also does anybody have any good info or tips I could use with my new camera?

While the technology may be considered obsolete in only a year or two, the camera itself should last a very long time.
